The Bellevue Voice #4: City Council meets tomorrow on middle housing
The Bellevue City Council will meet tomorrow, June 10, at 6pm to decide the next step on middle housing, and the outcome will have a major impact on the future of our neighborhoods.
At this meeting, the Council will either: Move forward with the Planning Commission’s proposal, which includes significant upzoning throughout single-family neighborhoods, or provide “alternative direction” to staff, which could include a more reasonable approach aligned with state minimums.
The full agenda item can be found here: View Council Meeting Details
As shared in previous emails from the voice, the proposal currently under consideration would increase what can be built in many neighborhoods, allowing up to eight units per lot in some areas previously zoned for single-family homes.
This goes far beyond what is required under state law, and it risks dramatically changing the look, feel, and function of Bellevue’s residential communities.
What you can do
- Email the Council today at council@bellevuewa.gov. Ask them to implement only the minimum upzoning required by state law, and no more. Even a short message helps.
- Show up to the Council meeting tomorrow at 6pm: In-person attendance continues to send a strong message that neighborhoods are paying attention. Your presence makes a difference.
Thank you for staying informed and engaged. Let’s continue working together to protect the character and livability of our neighborhoods.
