The Bellevue Voice #1: What’s Happening Next Door?
I’m launching this email series to help keep you informed about local issues that affect our neighborhoods, starting with a topic that’s not getting enough attention: Middle Housing.
The City of Bellevue is currently considering zoning changes that could dramatically reshape neighborhoods like yours. By June 30, 2025, the City must respond to state mandates, and how they choose to comply could affect everything from street congestion to the character of your block.
In fact, under some proposals, the house next door could be replaced with up to 8 separate residences – all on one standard lot.
In addition to the dismantling of our single-family neighborhoods, these proposals will mean more cars, more noise, and greater strain on power, water, and sewer systems. Without proper planning, neighborhoods won’t be able to handle this. And yet… most residents aren’t even aware this is on the table.
Even more concerning, many HOAs and neighborhood associations don’t know what protections they may already have. Your neighborhood covenants may offer legal safeguards, but the city won’t notify you or help you enforce them.
That’s where this newsletter comes in. I want to help close the gap and make sure residents are informed, engaged, and ready to take action if needed.
I’ll continue sharing updates, resources, and upcoming event opportunities to help you and your neighbors stay ahead of what’s coming. If you have any information you would like to share for future updates that you think is important for our neighborhoods and residents to know about, please don’t hesitate to send it over to me.
Please let other interested friends and neighbors stay in the know by having them sign up for updates!
